The Innovator’s Spirit

Humanity has come a long way in the few thousand years we’ve been around, but despite our progress, there is no shortage of critical issues to tackle. The demand for innovation has never been higher, but business and social leaders too often fall victim to management thinking and defending the status quo.

The innovator’s spirit is built on a foundation of core beliefs that drive the behaviors that enable people to innovate by overcoming the obstacles that conventional thinking puts in our way.

In my book, I challenge leaders’ assumptions to illuminate the conditions needed to solve the world’s biggest problems. I use my experience to explain that innovation is about people, not process. It’s about leadership, not management. And it’s about finding a better way, not settling for best practice. I help you understand the necessary mindset and environment that will nurture an innovator’s spirit and enable them to focus on creating transformational value that is true innovation. My goal is to motivate others to pursue the impossible.

In May of 2020, Fast Company Press will be publishing "The Innovator's Spirit". The book is AVAILABLE NOW for pre-order. As a thank you, I’ll also provide you with some exclusive insights prior to publication in my quarterly newsletter - which will start in December.

In the meantime, I’m staying busy with my podcast; Innovators on Tap. Check it out and let me know what you think on Twitter.

Excerpts

“The innovator’s spirit powers you to keep going, even when everyone else tells you to stop—to double-down on your efforts because you can see something no one else can. If you don’t keep pressing on, who else will make the impossible possible?”

“If you were going to start a company to compete against your current company, what would you do?”

“When someone says you can’t do something, they are actually telling you what you should do—it’s an opportunity to go beyond what your rivals or competition believes they are capable of. They are telling you which problem you can solve to create an innovation.”
